Morocco
After seven weeks I thought it was time to leave Spain, so this weekend I went to the north of Morocco. The trip started really early, we left already at 4:45! We went by bus to Algeciras were we took the ferry to Ceuta and from there the trip really started.
Our first stop was in a village called Martil where we had some fresh air after the long trip to Morocco. The place where all the locals come to enjoy the beach during the summer. After half an hour we headed to Tetuán, the city where our hotel was located. But before we went to the hotel, we visited the city. During the whole trip we had our own guide who told us all kind of interesting stuff. In Tetuán we had our first lunch in a lovely typical Arabic restaurant with live music on the background. After our lunch it was time to see the city, so we started our tour in the Medina of Tetuán, where the locals were selling their products like all kinds of food, crafts and so on. We also went to a couple of demonstrations of how they make some products like argan oil. I also was one of the lucky persons who had the possibility to get dressed in typical Moroccan traditional clothes. After the tour it was time to go to our hotel to refresh a bit before it was time to eat. The hotel was really nice with amazing beds and also the food was really good, it was a nice sweet chicken with rice and some vegetables.
The next day we had to wake up really early to see the cities Assilah, Tanger and Cap Spartel. Our first stop was Assilah, a lovely small town next to the Atlantic ocean, where the houses were all white and blue. Luckily the sun was shining, so we could enjoy the nice warm weather. After a few hours it was already time to leave Assilah to continue our program heading to Tanger. From the peaceful and quiet village of Assilah we arrived in one of the biggest cities of North Morocco, where it was crowded and noisy. Besides that it was so crowded it was a really nice city to see. First we had some lunch in again a lovely typical Arabic restaurant with live music on the background. After we had filled our stomach again, it was time to see the city. We went to a point where we could see Spain on the other side of the Mediterranean sea. Unfortunately the viewpoint was actually really ugly because it was next to an industrial area, but that couldn’t let the fact that we could see Spain, haha. Afterwards we went to the Medina of Tanger, which one was smaller than the one from Tetuán, but also nice to see. What really was remarkable, not only in Tanger, but also in the other cities we visited, was the large amount of streetcats. You could find one in almost every street, both the big as the little ones. From the medina we walked to the harbour of Tanger where the bus was waiting for us to bring us to our next and last stop of the day: Cap Spartel. Where we had the opportunity to ride on a camel and at the same time seeing the sun disappear in the see, which was really amazing. Just before we got back to our hotel we went to the point where you could see both the Atlantic ocean and the Mediterranean sea. Thinking you are returning directly to the hotel so you have time to refresh yourself, well I was wrong. Of course there was a puncture in the tire so on our way back we had to stop to repair it, welcome in Morocco, haha. After having waited for half an hour on the street with 60 people, the tire was repaired, so we could continue our way back home.
The last day had arrived, so it was time to go to our last destination, namely Chefchouan. Ready to go, we were told that there was a little problem. Something was broke in the bus, and no it wasn’t the tire but something else. Probably someone wanted to ride along with the bus hoping to go to Spain, broke something when he tried to ride along. An hour later than planned, the busdriver fixed the bus and we could finally go to Chefchouan, the blue city. Chefchouan was by far the most beautiful city we’ve visited. All the houses were blue, or white with blue. Every house and street was more beautiful than the one before. It felt like we were in smurf’s village, the only thing that was missing were the smurfs by itself haha. The last hour, after the lunch we had some time to buy some souvenirs or just to wander through the streets. All things come to an end, thus also this amazing trip to Morocco, so at 2 o’clock it was time to get in the bus and go back to Spain. Before we could enter Spain, we had to cross the border and to cross the border, they had to check if there wasn’t anyone who had hidden himself somewhere in the bus. And if we hadn’t enough trouble with the bus, someone had managed to crawl somewhere in the bus. Unfortunately for him he got caught, and we could continue our way back home.
Thinking back about the trip, it was an amazing experience and trip, where I’ve met lots of nice people, good weather and a lot of fun.
